Great Run!!!

This years Kruger Challenge was a great success! Every paddler that started, finished in the alloted 24 hour time limit. We began just before sunrise on Saturday with temps in the low 40's. The day was mostly cloudy, but the sun did shine through and made for a very pleasent paddle. After dark the temps fell into the low 30's and thick fog moved in. A slim moon helped out for an hour or so before it set leaving a brilliant starry night. Through racer donations we were able to raise $150 for the Memorial.
THANK YOU PADDLERS!!!

The Kruger Challenge will start at 7am the morning of October 4th and continue on into the early hours of October 5th 2008. We will start at the State Forest Campground just north of the Manistee River Bridge on M-72. The finish will be at Harvey Bridge, about 100 miles downstream from the start.

Our goal is to paddle this entire 100 miles in 24 hours or less. We are asking that a $15 donation from each paddler be paid before the start of the Challenge to go directly to the Verlen Kruger Memorial Project. Cash or check made out to "Verlen Kruger Memorial" will be collected pryer to the start.

This a very challenging event and all participants must be experienced paddlers. If you plan on paddling in the dark you will need head lights and night time paddling experience.

Camping is first come first serve at the Manistee River Bridge State Forest Campground, but in early October there should be plenty of sites for those arriving late Friday night.

A great book with very good maps and river description is "Canoeing Michigan Rivers" by Jerry Dennis and Craig Date
